Jesus And The Demoniacs At The Tomb (Part 1)

We are using two scriptures; Matthew 8:28-32 & Mark 5:1-17 to look  into the mind of God in regards to the times and the season we find ourselves. If you look through Jesus ministry, He did not divert too much unto the gentile territory. Any time he stepped into a gentile territory, there was something very special or peculiar he wanted to do. Jesus went over to Galilee and met two demoniacs. We are looking at the situation a man (or should two men) whose encounters with Jesus communicates, the mind of God to us. The man was possessed with devils. The account in Mark chapter 5 will give us some extra details that will help us examine the matter further.

In Mark 5: 9-17 says; And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are ,many. 10 And he sought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. 11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. 12 And all the devil besought him saying. Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirit went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. 14 And they went out to see what it was that was done. 15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had a Legion sitting, and clothed, and In his right mind: and they were afraid. 16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. 17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

           Points To Note

  1. Vs 2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately he met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, the man had an unclean nature.
  2. 3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: His dwelling was among the tombs, he did not dwell with regular folk. This would help you understand the gravity of the situation he was in.
  3. 4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountain, and in the tombs, crying and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 8 For he said unto him, come out of the man, thou unclean Spirit.

Now follow the story with me. This man ran to Jesus and worshipped Him. But what he was saying with his mouth was different. 7. And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. What does this tell us?.

        Two Different Natures Warring Within

There were two beings in the man, two different natures warring, one side desiring to worship, but the other side of him was asking “not to be disturbed”. Brethren take special note: in spite of the opposing force from the other side of his nature, there was no power that could stop him from going to Jesus. There is a principle here for us. If you want to worship  God, no power can stop you. (Luke 10:42. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her :). When we make a choice to walk with God, when you make a response to God, when you make a response to the Lord, the devil cannot stop you. Only you can stop yourself from moving on to glory, the choice is completely yours. Do not say, it is your neighbours, parents, job, friends etc. the decision lies completely with one. Once you make up your mind it is recorded in heaven that “this one has chosen this way”. You have a choice in the matter. Please keep abreast on this subject as the LORD unfolds the teaching daily.  Shalom!
